Ultimate New Homes Showcase 2015

This year Noyes Development was part of the 2015 Home Builders Association Ultimate New Homes Showcase. We were one of four homes chosen to be a host home for the showcase. Our category for the Showcase was Solar-Ready Home. The particular home we chose was our “High Performance Entertainer” a state of the art high performance luxury home with solar ready to be installed. Solar ready means a home is pre-wired for solar PV and AC & DC cabling so if the homeowner chooses they can have solar panels installed without having to alter the home. At Noyes Development we also make sure that each home’s roof pitch is designed to optimize solar panels. We had a great turn out this year with SolarCity and Tesla both helping us host our guests that came. KGW of Portland even asked our Vice President Mike Frey if they could do a piece on our High Performance Entertainer. (The link to the interview is attached below)

At Noyes Development , we are proud to do what we can to strengthen our community. Whether that’s through sustainable building practices or working with local organizations we believe in, we‘re proud to do what we can to make the world a better place.

Some of our most impactful work to date has been with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for those in need. Continue reading to learn more about Habitat for Humanity, how Noyes Development got started working with them, and to hear from Mike Frey, Noyes Development Vice President, and Clark Vorm, Land Development Manager & Marketing Manager.

Habitat for Humanity in the Portland community

Habitat for Humanity , also known as Habitat, is a non-profit organization that works with families to build or improve homes that they can call home. Habitat’s vision is to work towards a world in which every person in every country has a place to live that they can be proud of. To reach this goal, Habitat focuses on empowering families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance.

The organization works with individual volunteers and outside groups like Noyes Development to build and refurbish homes with the families that will be living in them. This builds pride in ownership for the families and connects the community with the people they are helping in a very real way.

Who can own a Habitat for Humanity home?

Habitat works hard to provide safe and affordable homes for those most in need. Anyone can apply for homeownership through Habitat for Humanity, and the local chapter of each Habitat for Humanity organization's selection committee will decide which families are selected based on three criteria:

An applicant’s level of need and financial situation
Ability and willingness to partner with Habitat and work with the organization to build or refurbish their new home
The ability to pay for the home through an affordable payment plan

How did Noyes Development become involved in Habitat for Humanity?

Given Noyes Development’s commitment to both the Portland community and building beautiful homes that last , working with Habitat for Humanity was a natural fit.

Peter Noyes and Mike Frey were both interested in engaging with the community in a way that used Noyes Development’s unique expertise building homes efficiently. When Peter heard about the Home Builders Blitz event that Habitat for Humanity organizes every year, he brought the idea to Mike. Both agreed that it was a great opportunity.

“We think Habitat is an outstanding organization,” said Mike. “We believe in supporting our community and using our talents to help others. Partnering with Habitat was a natural fit.”

Noyes Development worked with Habitat for Humanity in 2014 for their Home Builders Blitz Event in which professional home builders work to renovate and repair homes for families. We also participated in the same event in 2016.

“Noyes Development partnered with Habitat for Humanity and our subcontractors and suppliers to build a house in two weeks for a local family in need during the 2014 Home Builders Blitz. We built one of four homes in this project alongside some other outstanding industry members. It took months of planning and a lot of teamwork, but it was a very successful event and four families have homes as a result. We look forward to participating in more events in the future!”

How does Noyes Development work with Habitat for Humanity to provide homes for those in need?

In addition to our “boots on the ground” help building the homes, Noyes Development helps plan and organize the construction of projects and events. Mike Frey was also part of the construction committee between 2016-2020 for the Portland-area Habitat for Humanity.

For the Home Builders Blitz, many of our trade partners donated some or all of their work on home projects. In the end, Noyes bridged the gaps to deliver the homes to Habitat with all of the construction costs covered for the Blitz homes.

Noyes Development has and will continue to donate to Habitat for Humanity financially. Additionally, Habitat approached us for help with a development related project in 2019. Clark Vorm, Noyes Development’s Land Development Manager & Marketing Manager, helped Habitat with getting development approval for the project. We are almost done and will have approvals to develop the lot in time for construction summer 2021.

“I worked in partnership with our planner and engineers (Westlake Consultants) to assist in the Land Use Decision and approval. It is a unique development that required overcoming some obstacles, but we were able to move forward. We are currently helping out with the engineering approvals and are on track to be ready for construction in the summer of 2021. I’m very grateful Noyes encourages me to use my skill set to help such a wonderful organization like Habitat for Humanity and look forward to helping out again in the near future.”

Each year Oregon Home Magazine (a statewide magazine) hosts the Style + Structure Awards. These awards are intended to recognize outstanding work from builders and other trades in the industry from across the state. This year we chose to submit our company’s most challenging build to date, Kinsley Estates Lot 12. By working together with our industry partners, we were able to turn a very difficult building site into an amazing home and our efforts are being recognized in the Fall 2018 issue of Oregon Home Magazine. Noyes Development Co. took home the award in the Building Category: Best Single-Family Home Detached $750,000 - $999,999!

We have secured a solid reputation over the past 25 years by building high-quality, luxurious, and innovative homes while setting the leading standard in high performance home building. To maintain our spot on top, we support our employees with training and continuing education opportunities. Our partners at Earth Advantage offer the Sustainable Home Professionals (SHP) course which assists building professionals in learning technical skills needed to design and construct high performance residential homes.

Recently, Noyes was able to send three of our employees through this rigorous 6 month training course. During this time team members assessed standard built to code homes and tried to identify changes that could be made to enhance the efficiency. After countless hours of “homework” (see the pun there) and a presentation, our team members became official accredited Sustainable Home Professionals. As a company we cannot be more proud of their efforts. Excellent work guys!

Noyes Development and Northwest Children’s Outreach

Noyes Development Co. is committed to making a difference in our local community. Supporting outstanding local charities is how we have found we can have the greatest impact. On November 13th our team spent time at Northwest Children's Outreach, a local non-profit that help meets the needs of vulnerable children in our community. They act largely as a distribution center for clothing and other care items for infants all the way through teens, accepting a multitude of donations to help them accomplish their goal.

For our part, Noyes Development Co. donated many clothing items. Then employees and their families came to the distribution center where we sorted and packed donated items for distribution. Our efforts alone will positively impact more than 70 local children. The donations, sorting, and other efforts from our team widened our impact even more and we look forward to contributing again!

On September 7, 2017, local home builders who have a passion for green and energy efficient building gathered at McMenamins Edgefield for Earth Advantage's annual Green Home Builder of the Year Awards. These awards are intended to recognize local builders for their efforts towards efficient building practices. A diverse panel of experts in the field served as judges and selected the winners after reviewing all of the submissions and performance data.

Noyes Development Co. was selected for Volume Builder of the Year as recognition for our superior performance and construction methods which were executed continually in each home we build in our subdivisions. Our very own Alex Chavez also won the award for Construction Manager of the Year!

On October 15, 2015, more than 170 home building professionals celebrated the successes of their peers at the eleventh annual Excellence Awards Dinner and Salmon Bake. The awards program recognizes the outstanding work of local companies across a variety of categories, including new residential construction, remodeling and marketing. Winners are selected by a panel of industry professionals based on aesthetics, general design and other factors and are divided into selection groups by budgetary consideration. This year Noyes Development took home first place in the category Single Family Home $650,000 - $749,999. To help our cause, we have now partnered up with SolarCity to create a special program that gives our homeowners the option to install solar panels on their roofs through SolarCity. The program is to help provide an easy way to bring clean renewable energy to any future Noyes home. Every Noyes home starting in Winter of 2014 will now be solar ready. Each home includes a conduit and wiring that is connected to the roof to make it easier to install the solar panels. 2014 Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz

The Home Builders Blitz 2014 is a nationwide event through Habitat for Humanity International in which homes are built start to finish in a week by professional home builders. Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East is excited to be building four homes from May 30-June 13 in the Centennial neighborhood in east Portland. Fish Construction NW, Neil Kelly/Parr Lumber, Noyes Development Co and Schumacher Custom Homes —and their subcontractors are donating labor and materials to get these homes built in two weeks! The event culminates on Friday, June 13 at noon when families will receive keys to their new homes at the Home Dedication Ceremony.

The families receiving these homes have already put in 500 hours of sweat equity and will purchase the homes at cost and pay a 0%-interest mortgage.The Home Builders Blitz was started in 2002 by Tom Gipson, a professional home builder in Raleigh, N.C., who supported Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to eliminate poverty housing in his community.

Gipson rallied other local builders for an accelerated build, which was so successful that Habitat for Humanity International decided to promote it as a nationwide event.
